Czarina Los Angeles Runway Event
Selling out Union Station for the Czarina event introduced us to our first complex touring production. There was so much going on in the room that no one realized the Fire Marshal started the show as he felt there were too many people in the room. When we heard the music backstage, the only model dressed was Lisa D'Amato. Somehow we managed to get all the models spray painted and coiffed, dressed and change without a pause on the runway. Aftershow was a live performance by Miss Derringer and of course Lis D'Amato live. Union station posed several technical challenges especially since the space is protected by the National Historic Monument Registry and we were not allowed to touch the structure in any way. The runway had to be build on top of the antique ticket counters, and the lighting was strategically placed on a free floating truss. In end, the photos were amazing of the collection, but the real innovation at the Czarina event was the pop-up retail. Most people in Los Angeles realized this was the only chance to purchase Jared Gold and Black Chandelier. The pop-up store was VERY busy, it probably didn't hurt that we were giving away special Czarina cocktails: Organic vodka and Rose soda.
Union Station sold out seating. 2200 guests. Tony Ward, Tracy Lords, Stevie Ryan, and Ms. Derringer. Hair by Hairroin, Make-up by Temptu.
Czarina Salt Lake City Runway Event
The Czarina runway events would both go down in history as some of the largest runway events in the world. The Salt LAke City event was held at the freshly built warehouse space of Webb Audio / Visual. The entire company dedicated hours and hours to developing our special staging and lighting effects. The 8 projector spider projection system required a team of 4 technicians to operate.
A team of us went on local the morning news and announced an open call for any local models to come to the venue in the afternoon and audition for the show. Winners of the walk-off would then go directly into hair and make-up to prep for the runway show that evening. The Czarina event was far more polished than the Los Angeles show, and in end, rounded up just as much press.

Czarina behind the scenes at the Standard
The Jared Gold / Black Chandelier staff travelled to Los Angeles for the Czarina Runway event. We transformed the penthouse of the Standard into our workroom for two days. The entire staff took part in sewing, finishing and primping for the collection. The studio culture of the company allowed for very close relationships among the staff, and everyone stuck pretty close to each other.

My dream was always to have more time to design. Each collection would start as a roll of tracing paper. I would unroll the paper over my croquis and usually design the entire collection in one sitting in an hour. I would draw ideas and imagery from my sketchbooks, and bring them all together at once. You can see in the images that Czarina was intended to be much more sporty.

Pen and Ink hand illustrations by Bradley F. Edwards. Brad would sit in his chair all day, drawing and dipping his pen in an ink well. It thrills me to no end that one of the backbones of the company was a manual illustrator.
